Orange, CA- August 25, 2014 -OCYE members recently volunteered at The Ronald McDonald House in Orange, California, hosting the resident families with El Ranchito catering, heart-warming conversation, and an exciting game of bingo for the resident children.
Every evening the staff at the Ronald McDonald House promise one thing: a nice dinner for the families who are returning from a day spent at the hospital – all who have critically ill children being treated across the street at CHOC and several Orange County Hospitals. The rooms do not have televisions by design, so the kitchen becomes a place of community and sharing for the families to convene each evening. After serving dinner, the group launched into a guided tour of the facilities and games of bingo for the younger children, awarding prizes ranging from Target gift cards to school backpacks.
A Hemet resident, who has been returning to the Orange County Ronald McDonald House for 10 years during the critical stages of her 15-year-old son’s cancer said about the House’s promise of dinner: “It means one less worry when we have to care for our child. As a parent, you worry about the maybes and having food ready for us relieves that stress and it helps.” The dinner and bingo gifts were donated by OCYE.
The OCYE members in attendance were equally touched by the evening: “It was extremely rewarding to help give the families a break from what must be a very difficult time,” said OCYE Member Debra Postil. The evening, which was coordinated by OCYE Co-Founding Board Member and Chair of the Philanthropy committee Christina Garkovich, precedes OCYE’s Third Annual Hearts for Children Benefit set September 12, 2014 at Andrei’s Restaurant in Irvine, which will benefit The Orange County Ronald McDonald House.
Additional OCYE members in attendance included: OCYE Founder and CEO Brian, with his wife Megan; Josh Meier, Co-Founding Board Member, with his son Conrad; Brandon Biegenzahn, Co-Founding Board Member; Khary Espy, Board Member; Tom Linovitz; Melissa Beck; Anthony Bayer; David Sloan; Michael Burns; Kurt Beimfohr; Breanne Henkelman; and Michael Ortiz.
