LEAD OC proudly supports the UCI LIFEvest Financial Literacy Program
The UC Irvine LIFEvest financial literacy program is dedicated to assisting underserved 9th and 10th grade students from Orange County who are first-generation college hopefuls. The program focuses on providing students with critical financial literacy education and college readiness preparation.
LIFEvest is a week-long 100% immersion program unique to UC Irvine and provides the opportunity to experience the life-changing curriculum while having a collegiate experience living in the on-campus dorms. Learning objectives include examining the relationship between education and lifetime earning potential, budgeting and money management, building and tracking a stock portfolio, college admissions process and financial aid, high school graduation preparation and networking. Classroom sessions are supported by activities that include field trips to local corporate headquarters, a social etiquette dinner to learn formal table manners and how to make small talk, coaching on personal presentation skills, career panels and team building exercises to build supportive peer relationships.
The program is hosted by the Center for Investment and Wealth Management at the UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business. LIFEvest tuition comes at no cost to the student’s families and is completely funded by the generosity of the Center members and community donors. Three weeks of programming are hosted each summer and have benefited over 370 Southern California students over the past 8 years.
